Prince Harry Blames Royal Household and King Charles After Losing UK Security Appeal
Prince Harry has issued a forceful statement following the dismissal of his appeal to reinstate publicly funded security during visits to the United Kingdom. The Duke of Sussex criticised both the Royal Household and RAVEC—the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures—for what he described as a systemic failure to ensure his and his family's safety.
In his response, Harry accused RAVEC, whose membership includes senior officials from the Royal Household, Home Office, and Metropolitan Police, of failing to follow its own standard procedures. "This ruling confirms that RAVEC did not adhere to the processes mandated for all high-risk and high-profile individuals," he said, adding that the case had exposed “shocking truths” about the decision-making process behind his security arrangements.
Harry revealed that concerns over security began as early as 2017, when it was initially decided that Meghan Markle, then his fiancée, would not receive protective security upon joining the royal family. That decision, he said, was eventually overturned, but only after his personal intervention. The prince took particular issue with the Royal Household being his sole representative on RAVEC, arguing that this compromised the impartiality of decisions. “The Royal Household could request a reassessment at any time, yet I am not granted that same right,” he said.
He further alleged that some key individuals involved in denying his protection retired shortly after making their decisions. Harry claimed that threats to his safety, including from neo-Nazi and extremist groups, underscore the continuing need for proper protection, particularly when he travels to the UK.
In a pointed reference to King Charles III, Harry suggested that his father has the authority to change the situation. "There is a lot of control and ability in my father’s hands," he said. “Ultimately, this whole thing could be resolved through him—either by action or by stepping back to allow an independent expert review.”
Buckingham Palace responded with a brief statement, emphasizing that Harry's security arrangements had been “examined repeatedly and meticulously by the courts, with the same conclusion reached on each occasion.” The palace declined to comment further on Harry's claims regarding the Royal Household’s involvement or the implications of his remarks about King Charles.
Despite the legal setback and growing tensions with the institution, Prince Harry reiterated his emotional connection to the UK. He described the country as "close to his heart," especially as the birthplace of his son, Archie. He also expressed his continued commitment to charitable efforts within the UK, despite the challenges posed by the current security situation.
The statement marks yet another flashpoint in the ongoing rift between the Duke of Sussex and the British royal establishment, with Harry once again calling for transparency, fairness, and a re-evaluation of how protection decisions are made for former working royals.
